Fair Usage Policy

1. Overview

This Fair Usage Policy ("Policy") outlines the acceptable boundaries of use for the HeyGrats platform. Our goal is to ensure a high-speed, reliable, and secure experience for all our users.

Because we offer storage and hosting services, we must prevent abuse that could degrade the performance of the Service for others or impose exorbitant costs on our infrastructure (hosted on Vercel and DigitalOcean).

2. General Principles

The Service is designed for personal, non-commercial event photo sharing (unless a specific commercial plan is purchased).

  • Fair Use: Usage that is consistent with typical event photo sharing (e.g., weddings, birthdays, corporate mixers).
  • Unfair Use: Usage that places an excessive burden on our servers, bandwidth, or storage significantly beyond the average usage patterns of similar events.

3. Storage and Media Usage

While we may offer "unlimited" uploads for certain plans, this is subject to this Fair Usage Policy to prevent abuse.

3.1 Prohibited Storage Practices

You may not use the Service for:

  • Generic File Backup: Uploading content unrelated to the specific event (e.g., backing up personal hard drives, system files, or non-media archives).
  • RAW File Dump: Uploading massive libraries of uncompressed RAW files (e.g., ARW, CR2, NEF) intended for archival rather than viewing. We recommend uploading High-Quality JPEGs/WEBP for the best experience.
  • Non-Visual Content: Uploading encrypted files, executables, or data solely for storage purposes.

3.2 Excessive Volume

If a single event exceeds 10,000 photos or 50GB of data, we reserve the right to:

  1. Contact you to discuss optimization.
  2. Archive older media to "cold storage" (slower access).
  3. Request that you upgrade to a custom enterprise plan.

4. Bandwidth and Network Usage

You may not use our Service in a way that consumes disproportionate bandwidth (data transfer).

4.1 No Hotlinking or CDN Usage

You agree not to use HeyGrats as a Content Delivery Network (CDN) for other websites.

  • Prohibited: Direct linking images stored on HeyGrats to display on third-party websites (e.g., eBay listings, high-traffic blogs, or forums).
  • Allowed: Sharing the link to the HeyGrats event gallery/landing page is fully encouraged.

4.2 Automated Access

Use of automated scripts, bots, spiders, or scrapers to bulk download or upload content is strictly prohibited without our prior written consent.

5. Enforcement

If we determine that your usage violates this Policy:

  1. Warning: We will typically attempt to contact you via email to resolve the issue.
  2. Throttling: We may temporarily limit your upload/download speeds or API access.
  3. Suspension: In extreme cases (e.g., DDoS attacks, massive automated scraping, or hosting illegal content), we reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account immediately without notice/refund.

6. Policy Updates

We may update this Fair Usage Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services or legal requirements. When we make significant changes:

  • We will notify users via email or platform notifications.
  • The updated policy will be posted on our website.
  • Continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
